Victoria’s secret is an American retailer which is best known for women’s lingerie. It was started in 1977 by Roy Raymond who opened his first store in Palo Alto. His basic motive was embarrassment he felt trying to purchase lingerie for his wife. In 1982 he sold the company to Leslie Werner, owner of Limited, for a sum of 4 million dollars. By the early 1990s, Victoria’s Secret has become the largest American lingerie retailer, topping one billion dollars. There are 1,000 Victoria’s Secret lingerie stores and 100 independent Victoria’s Secret Beauty Stores in the US, mostly in shopping centers. In the early nineties the company started using supermodels for it’s advertising. Among the first there were Helena Christensen, Karen Mulder, Daniela Pestova, Stephanie Seymour and Tyra Banks.
